Mutant Boy was 6 years old yesterday. Did he get lots of presents? Yes, but most of them were based on terrible puns. At least Lol covered himself in icing to make the chomping more festive.

You didn't think I'd go the entire of 2010 without putting up a comic, did you? More coming up, although admittedly I wrote several of them last year. Brown and sticky stuff is going down, yo.

Sorry for the delay, you have no idea how difficult it is to compose a text message when you only have stubby no-fingered arms.

My computer is determined not to go five minutes without freezing up at the moment, which means that Mutant Boy is trapped on it and unable to get up to his usual shenanigans. So, in the meantime, enjoy this Original-style comic I drew using my laptop. You may be able to guess what inspired it!

Guess what happens next

For those of you who can't remember back to Easter 2005, here is the event in question in today's comic

28 Aug 2008 17:54:28 BST

It's Mutant Boy's birthday today! The first comic appeared roughly here four years ago, when I drew a crappy "one-off" in MS Paint. I know, I even used Windows back then. Scary!

Happy MBday!

Nivan.net is now back! Next time hopefully I'll realise when the domain is about to expire. That won't be until 2010 now at any rate, huzzah!

Just in case you were wondering just how gargantuan Gargantuan Robot Lol was, I made a diagram packed full of fun facts from Wikipedia. Based on a toothpick being about two-and-a-half inches long, I figure that gives Robot Lol a height in the range of about 15 kilometres.

Hopefully his head is accustomed to being at -50°C (-58°F) and at a pressure of about 0.2 bar. And, like a baby, planes will fly into his mouth

Okay, so it's a bit late this weekend, but I'm sure it's still Sunday somewhere... >.>

I hope everyone in England is enjoying their long weekend!

Spaceman and the Masterful Plot was penned by Luke Whitmore. Credit where credit's due!

Today, January 17 2008, is Costanza Falcon's fifth birthday! To celebrate, I made a special Dimwits episode which can be found here!

I also noticed that none of the cartoon pages were loading the animations properly, so I fixed that too!

Oops, no Mutant Boy in two months! I... uh, I've been very busy. and Xorg broke Wacom tablet support. Good job, Xorg *frown*.

On the plus side, an unscheduled Mutant Boy today, and I have Friday off, so assuming I manage not to waste it playing Lego Star Wars on the Wii, there should be lots more where that came from.

Today's comic was aged by The Gimp. Click here – sorry, no, here – for the original full colour version!

5 Aug 2007 0:17:02 BST

Today's comic has an alternate "Lol is GIR" ending! Clicky!

29 Jul 2007 19:05:05 BST

Vim 7 has spell checking! Mutant Boy is saved!

By the way, thanks J.K. Rowling for spoiling the "last word of the story" reference I used in comic 134! 'Preciate it!

3 Apr 2007 7:48:56 BST

Today's comic also has a copy in the web-safe palette, for those of you who really yearn for the old days!

I got an e-mail from Lol yesterday in my inbox:
Sender: LOL Tahiti
Subject: Rocket Stock Report

The message itself didn't really make too much sense, but based on the above, I think it's pretty obvious that Lol is fed up with being in Egypt and wants to go to Tahiti, possibly by rocket. Maybe Spaceman will help him out with that!

Merry Christmas, everyone! Today's comic is also available as a desktop wallpaper! I think Angry Apple makes a very convincing grumpy old man; don't you?

Wow, I've finally finished transcribing all the episodes of Mutant Boy for the comic search. This means that when you search for an episode you're guaranteed that you're searching the entirety of Mutant Boy!

The Advanced Search page lets you search for individual parts of the comics. This is pretty neat if you want to find all comics that involve a chomping (search for "chomp" in sound effects), or if you want to find all the comics where a character speaks (use 'MB', 'SM', and 'AA' for Mutant Boy, Spaceman, and Angry Apple). Once again thanks to Ryan at OhNoRobot.com for providing this!

The sharp eyed viewers may have noticed the new Downloads link that appeared at the top of the website a while ago. The even sharper eyed viewers (blimey, point those eyes someplace else) would have noticed that the link was dud. Unhappy face. But I fixed that now! You can now download the Mutant Boy 100th Comic as a wallpaper for your desktop. Who needs [insert sexy celebrity here] when you could have Mutant Boy freaking out over all the people he's eaten? GOOD QUESTION, I hear you reply.

Click here to go to the downloads page. I also added Mutant Girl to the characters page, since I think she's annoyed Mutant Boy enough to deserve a place there.

I've been trying out Ryan North's Project Wonderful lately, as an advertiser, and I'm pretty impressed with the system. So, that's right everyone, I've sold out. But only a little bit.

Basically the system works by giving free advertising to begin with, then people can bid higher amounts if they think the ad space is worth having. So, get in quickly and you'll get free advertising for a bit!

I'm also only approving static images (no animated gifs) so you hopefully won't be too distracted by it all.

Mutant Boy just topped 100! And, even more amazingly, my PHP code managed to cope with that! In your face, Y2K bugs!

I was surprised when looking back through the comics to find all the previously-chomped characters in Mutant Boy, that there were only ten in total! I lost count of how many times Lol gets eaten, but I could only really give him one 'ghost' in this comic.

If anyone wants the LARGE version of this comic, that can be arranged! E-mail me about that one.

5 Oct 2006 20:40:14 BST

Sorry Mutant Boy was late this week. I had to give him swimming lessons before he could do his takes in the pool. Even so, I had to use a stunt double for the butterfly stroke. Anyway, better late that never, right?

Next Sunday or Tuesday will be the 100th episode of Mutant Boy! Wait, I hear you say? Those four fan comics earlier counted? Well, I guess so! Or the Spaceman animation (Episode 79) counted for five. I'll let you decide!

Lol grabbing MB in dispair
Where is Mutant Boy? WHEEEEERE?!

I'm away this weekend so all six panels of Mutant Boy this week will be on Tuesday. Meanwhile it turns out that the Paint program on my internet tablet doesn't have a fill function, so you'll have to content yourself with the sketch above in black and white. Have a good weekend!

I was very unimpressed to notice today that my webstats provider has started throwing up pop-ups at you guys recently. Needless to say, I've removed the counter from the site now, and I'll look for a different way to monitor my traffic. If there's one form of adverts I can't stand, it's big flashy ones that pop up and make you SCREAM IN HORROR.

Also needless to say, there'll be part 2 of this week's comic coming out this Tuesday. I rejigged the site layout slightly to stop a lot of people having to scroll left and right for these wider comics.

27 Aug 2006 11:48:53 BST

"WHAT?" I hear you screaming at me as you bash me around the head with several weighty children. "Only three panels?"

Well let me tell you this: There's going to be another three panels on Tuesday to make up for it. Sometimes a comic only needs three panels, you SEE.

12 Aug 2006 23:37:55 BST

For anyone who recognised the cameo of Boy from BOASAS in this week's comic, I apologise for the arms he's grown! He needed them to laugh derisively at Lol.

16 Jun 2006 22:36:24 BST

This quick entry is just to confirm that Mutant Boy will return this Sunday with a new comic. I should be able to resume weekly updates from now on, presuming I don't get writer's block or anything!

6 Jun 2006 23:58:44 BST

Hello, and welcome to the new-look Nivan.net/Mutantboy.com! All of the old content is here, and hopefully you'll find it easier to navigate around. I've added an RSS feed of news and new comics, and if you were used to the Livejournal feed, you can get to that here. This RSS functionality is provided by Rsspect.com, which is a great service, so thanks to them!

Underneath each comic, there's the now option to transcribe it! What is this, I hear you ask? Well, for the most part I'll be transcribing the comics myself, but feel free to contribute as well if you like. The point of this is that you will now be able to search transcribed Mutant Boys, so if a joke occours to you and you want to look up the comic quickly, you can! You'll find the Search link in the list of links in the top-right of the site.

One last cool feature: try clicking the little thumbnailed comic above each cartoon! If you have JavaScript enabled you'll be able to type in the number of a comic and jump directly to it, without having to click Next/Previous lots of times. Neat, eh?

I'm hoping to have a new comic up shortly. There are several in the works now!
